Much effort is being put into research into pheromones in Institutes
and Universities around the world.
Vita (Europe) Limited have been collaborating with a major University
for many years to assist in the development of a pheromone blend, which
suppresses varroa mite populations.
Pheromones are well known already for their ability to trigger specific
reactions in insects. They are commonly used to act as attractants in order
to trap and monitor insect populations in agriculture and in public health
applications.
Our research projects into pheromone blends that will lead to the natural
control of the varroa mite have had some successes, however, much work
remains to be done in order to bring this project to fruition.
Vita intends to maintain commitment to this project in the sure knowledge
that success would make an important and natural addition to the beekeepers
armoury in the fight against the varroa mite.
